The Office Centre takes great pride in its business practices and procedures and takes its social responsibility seriously. This policy outlines our key commitments to our employees, environment, community, customers and our suppliers.
Our Employees: The Office Centre is an Equal Opportunity Employer and as such is committed not only to observing employment legislation but also to the promotion of equality of opportunity in employment. The Office Centre is committed to the elimination of any type of harassment and will take appropriate steps to deal with complaints. Deliberate or repeated acts of discrimination by employees will be treated as serious disciplinary offences in accordance with The Office Centre discipline procedure. It is the policy of The Office Centre that it will not discriminate in the provision of training. The company is committed to ensuring that all individuals have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their jobs effectively and are able to contribute towards the efficient running of their departments/location, by providing them with the necessary training.
Our Environment: It is the policy of The Office Centre to ensure that its activities are managed so as to minimise any impact on the environment, so far as is reasonably practiable. In order to achieve this:
- The Company will mange its product range to ensure that products in the range do not cause unacceptable environmental damage through its receipt, storage, and use or disposal phases.
- The Company will develop the energy efficiency of its vehicle fleet, and in future purchases or leases, will take account of the environmental impact of the models selected.
- The Company will aim to improve the energy efficiency of its premises. Existing buildings will be adapted where practicable to improve energy efficiency. When considering future purchases or leases, account will be taken of the energy efficiency of the building
Wherever possible the Company will seek to minimise waste:
- Through reduction in unnecessary consumption.
- Through purchasing recycled products and packaging for its own use.
- By sending used products and packaging to be recycled.
- Through reuse of packaging recived.
The Company operates a travel plan to encourage employees at all locations to travel to work using environmental friendly methods such as car sharing or use of public transport where practical. This plan is designed to reduce traffic congestion and improve road safety whilst also promoting a healthier workforce, relieving stress and improving staff morale.
Our Community: The Office Centre understands its responsibility to the local community and as such is constantly striving to contribute further. Our commitment to the community extends to the development of future generations as we welcome work placement students and school party visits. As part of our commitment to the education sector any surplus office supplies are distributed to local schools.
Our Customers: The Office Centre is committed to providing the highest level of service and is driven by developing long-term, loyal relationships with all our customers. It is the policy of The Office Centre to act with the utmost integrity when dealing with any existing or potential customer. We are committed to communicating fully with our customers through a variety of mediums including the internet, press, customer forums and presence at industry events.
Our Suppliers: The Office Centre is committed to working with its suppliers to ensure that the welfare of workers and labour conditions within the supply chain meet or exceed recognised standards.
The Company will not knowingly deal with any suppliers where:
- Forced, bonded or involuntary prison labour is used.
- Workers are required to lodge deposits of their identity papers and are not free to leave their employer after reasonable notice.
- A safe and hygienic working environment is not provided. Workers do not have access to clean toilet facilities and potable water.
- Recruitment of Child labour takes place.
- Workers are required to work excessive hours.
- Harsh or inhumane treatment of workers is permitted.
- Wages paid are not enough to meet basic needs.
- Deduction from wages is permitted as a disciplinary measure.
Senior members of the Merchandising team from our primary supplier undertake regular reviews with all of the sub suppliers, including factory visits to ensure that recognised standards are adhered to. |
